Hysteroscopic Polypectomy is a surgical procedure in which the uterine polyps are removed using hysteroscope. Polyps are non-cancerous overgrowth of cells lining the inner wall of the uterus.<\/p>

It is a minor surgery with minimal complications but can do wonders for women suffering from heavy bleeding or pain due to polyps.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

What are uterine polyps?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Polyps are the overgrowth of tissues lining the innermost layer of the uterus. Most of them are benign and become increasingly common as a woman ages.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

How is hysteroscopic polypectomy done?<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The procedure is performed under anaesthesia using hysteroscope that aids in direct visualization of the polyp. Slicing or shredding the polyp from one free edge to the other removes polyp completely.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Hysteroscopic polypectomy is a day care procedure. After the procedure, you will be kept under observation for a few hours after which you can go home. You will be advised antibiotics and painkillers postop for a week. Complete recovery takes around 2 weeks.<\/p>

While you are recovering, you might experience some of the following symptoms:<\/p>

  • Cramping pain<\/li><\/ul>

    The pain is similar to the menstrual pain. Normally, this wanes off in a few days and you can take anti-spasmodics like mefanamic acid and drotavarin in the meantime.<\/p>

    • Bleeding<\/li><\/ul>

      This can last up to a week. Small tissue fragments might also be expelled out. Using sanitary pads instead of tampon will reduce the risk of infection.<\/p><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
